I got a hold of a complete set of the Bone comics by Jeff Smith, after hearing that it was on the list of top 10 comics of all time I decided to give it a go. Apparently this guy lives in C-bus too, so that explains why I've heard of him.
I'll probably end up giving the books a second chance, the story is good, the problem is that I don't really like "everyman" type characters. They just seem too blah. It doesn't help that Fone Bone is a completely white and plain looking character, although I will admit that it's clever to make the "everyman" blank.
All things considered, I definitely don't hate the book, the story was great. It was more of an eye opener for me of how particular I can be about the writing process. I'm going to have to challenge myself to write an "everyman", just to get past this. I'm already dreading it, I can just imagine what it's like to try to write a character like that. So I have to give Jeff Smith props on that.
Yeah, I think I would like it a lot more the second time around.
