I love this story already. Even more knowing how it ends.
“I have an idea.” She slid into his lap now, wrapping her arms around his neck, “Gale and I have been in quite a pickle for a while now. The last fellow who was out ear to the outside up and left. Can you believe that? Just took the money and left.” She made a pouty face, “Oh, I do hope he’s alright, but things have been harder without him. But you should do it!”
Bastian had grown slightly uncomfortable with this predicament, he was certain that she was doing it on purpose, “You want to take me on as an employee.” He had decided that he didn’t mind her so much, but he still was leery of being associated with any coven.
“Salary. A nice one too. You can’t say that doesn’t sweeten the deal. With the economy the way it is, an entry-level job that pays salary?” She was right, it did sound good. Jenna’s school costs always seemed to leave him short at the end of the month, and he was having a harder and harder time making the payments on his house. “And you can still do work for the police, in fact I think that would be best. I would be tempted to pay you more if you continued to work for them, actually. I really think it’s awful that we get such a bad rep.”
He gave her a smug grin, “You have a bad rep because you’re soulless, blood-sucking monsters.”
She pouted at the statement, “You don’t really think that about me, do you? Bas-ti-an?”
He bit the inside of his mouth; he wasn’t sure what he thought of her, “You’re almost too happy to be one of them.”
She squealed with glee and gave him a quick pat on the shoulder, “You’re just the bee’s knees!”
