notes on color theory for me

Anyone who knows the meaning behind the name Orla would understand that if Ellioweish was the Golden Child, Artemis is his legacy. Whereas the story started out about finding good in evil, it now touches the idea of Artemis breaking out of an abusive relationship and becoming her own hero. But this also leads into other ideas like Kamen as the tragic hero (his constant journey through hell), and Van Dean as the Pegasus trapped in the monster (the name Gorgosa is quite intentional)...and I haven't even touched on Eeleanor's story yet.
This also leads into color theory for everyone in the book; with the exception of Artemis (she has her own color theory), I'm really pushing the theme "good guys wear black". Pour example, service personnel are always in black with gold trim, as are most of the military with the exception of BDUs which are olive. There are a few of the bits in the story so far that show Rei without his jacket, and even the shirt under it is black. (Spoiler, the Clovinian Royal Seal, emblem on the flag, and the rank symbol for Rei is my signature.)
Then you get to Dalian color theory. For reasons not explained until the end of book 2 when you finally hear the oracle's prophecy, Van Dean is always shown in shades of white and violet unless in a blood rage. Along with this you get the military uniforms, and the lavish white coats are another thing he's often seen wearing, it isn't until book 2 that he starts wearing shades of gray and black, and only when he's trying to win Nancy over.
As far as Artemis goes, almost everything is white with the exception of her red cloak (which is a riding hood reference, and the pre-Perrult kind. It adds to the innocence symbolism). It isn't until after the rape ordeal that she starts wearing the service uniform. In book 2 as Nancy she is in nothing but black, the first white she wears is with Kamen and then not again until Artemis is back and in Parliament.
