I shit you not, AIDS brought me and a co-worker together. Liljana doesn't speak very much English, and when she asked about all the bruises Shawn had on his shoulder I told her it looked like "SDIA", which is AIDS in most of the world outside America. First she laughed, and then responded "SDIA? AIDS?" To which I was REEEEEEEEEEEEALLY happy because we had never really understood eachother before then, and I said, "Yes, oh my god, yes!" And we hugged.
I had to explain to my mother what kind of rice my cooker takes. Medium and short grains are more sticky, so they work better. Long grain is very available to Americans, so it's eaten more, but its not that great for making riceballs. Even worse, some people actually think that you have to buy a special bag or type of rice called "sticky rice". Its just medium grain.
Speaking of which, I haven't looked at the bento website in a long time, I always liked looking at all the yummy bentos.
