I'm running into a wall.
Jun. 15th, 2009 03:18 amThe same wall as last time actually.
I had a hard time fixing chapter 2 of Artemis for a simple reason, the story arc I was going with was a confrontation of Celeste and Van Dean. It was messy and was deleted, to be replaced by the departure scene that is there now.
The problem wasn't that there was nothing going on, it was that there was too much going on and the tension was much too high. Celeste kept making snide remarks to him like she usually does, and he would make a cool sarcastic one right back, the problem was that it kept escalating and with both of the characters being incredibly headstrong (Celeste can afford it, Van Dean is just an asshole.).
Next thing you know Celeste is going biserk and attacking Van Dean, however he is invincible, but she's kind of a god so it was...the immovable object meets the unstoppable force. The world explodes.
ANY-who, I'm running into the same issue with Kamen and Van Dean.
So I'm at the point where Kamen has spent a few days in his new post with the Service and after witnessing a few things he confronts Van Dean over it. Kamen of course has Victorian chivalry pounded into his skull and Van Dean just doesn't give a shit.
So you have Van Dean saying something and Kamen rather than just saying something back does something that is highly characteristic of him. He tries to beat the shit out of Van Dean.
Yeah no. Rewind. Kamen actually only responds irrationally one or two times before he starts playing the same games as Van Dean, furthermore he wouldn't risk losing his position.
I may have to scrap the entire section...I hate that though. I'll probably come back to it a little later.
