working on violins

One of the more recent short stories I've been working on. It looks like the editing for Bastian is going to get a little sketchy due to technical issues, hopefully it won't be held up for very long. We've been making amazing progress on it so far, but playing with the tenses gets quite tedious.

Kamen lifted the bow back to his chin and went back through the first six notes again, making sure to hit each of them perfectly before looking back to Artemis, who rolled her eyes and turned a page in her book before saying with a sigh: “Your first was rushed, and you’re giving me a headache now.”

“God forbid.” Kamen scoffed.

Artemis closed the book once more, this time not bothering to save her page, “And now I’m too distracted to read about the major recipients of tashé and clauda root exports. The Dalian economy is going to crumble in a few short decades, and you Covington will be the cause.”

Kamen rolled his eyes and turned away from Artemis once more, pushing three more notes from the violin, “I’m very torn up about it: I don’t think I’ll sleep tonight, or the next night, actually I might not sleep for the next couple of days.”

“You mean not until your day off, right?” Artemis said flatly with a raised eyebrow.

“That sounds about right.” Kamen turned on his heel to face her completely, and revealed a smug grin that Artemis was fairly certain had been carefully hidden for most of their conversation. He pursed his lips pensively, “I think I’ll sleep pretty well after that, and, well, hopefully I’ll live to see the Dalian economy crumble.”

“You’re a bad sport.”

Kamen smiled and dropped the violin to his side, holding the bow in the same hand, “I’m an awful sport.”
